Sisir Sahana
Born in 1963 in Bankura, West Bengal, Sisir Studied Art at Kala Bhavan, Shantiniketan, and holds a bachelor and master’s degrees in painting from India as well as in advanced diploma in stained glass painting from central St. Martin’s collage of art and design in London. Sisir Sahana mastered this avenue of expression whilst on the fellowship and then study trips to Europe and America, when he tried his hand at stained glass and later shifting to other techniques of glass work and firing. Using a laborious and technology intensive method Sahana creates everything from scratch, even the glass itself, first envisioning the composition and then casting it with different colours and textures like matt and glazed. He tells a unique story with huge panel- like glass works that are displayed frequently at galleries around the country and abroad. Sisir works with many mediums but glass remains the most enjoyable means to expression for his art. Sisir has a number of national awards to his credit. He lives in Hyderabad and works from his studio cum workshop in the city.
