Biman Bihari Das was born in West Bengal in 1943. He was awarded a diploma in modeling and sculpture by the Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta (now Kolkata).  He pursued a teachers’ training art appreciation course in the history of art from Calcutta University.

He has exhibited his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the globe, including Second Asian Art Show in Fukuoka (1987) and Contemporary Asian Show in Seoul (1988). One can find his works in the art collections of prestigious institutions like these: Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi; Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata; National Gallery of Modem Art, New Delhi; College of Art, New Delhi.

Biman Bihari Das has received many awards and scholarships in his career. He was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri in 2014.
